Dictionary

This dictionary provides brief definitions for some key concepts of co-creation.

BOUNDARY OBJECT

A boundary object can be anything that can communicate a subject in a simple way across communities. This can be a drawing, artifact or even an instruction sheet for a product.

CO-CREATION

To create in cooperation with other. Workshops are a powerful tool for co-creation using activities and exercises.

CONSTRAINTS
Constraining is another way of restricting. In workshops, you can limit time use, topics etc.

CONVERGING

Closing down. A phase for rating and choosing.

DIVERGING

Opening up. A phase for researching and exploring.

DOUBLE DIAMOND

Describes a design process using converging and diverging phases

The following simplified steps describe the process:
- You get insight on a problem and discover it (diverging phase)
- You define the area of the problem you want to focus on (converging)
- You select a problem definition - to describe the essence of you problem
- You develop solutions based on your problem definition (diverging)
- The solutions can now be delivered into a final product (converging)

PRIMING
A way to expose a person with a stimulus (such as sounds, words, pictures etc.) that makes them think in a certain way. It could be mentioning an example of an idea before a brainstorm session - this will “force” the participants to think about this example and their ideas will be affected by it. Priming can be a powerful tool and should be used carefully if at all.

NUDGING

Nudging is when you try to change the behaviour of a person. Nudging can be as simple as putting fruit on the table in a meeting room to make the coworkers eat more healthy, or drawing a fly in a pissior to make the men aim better when peeing. When you forbid or remove something, it is not considered nudging.

PROTOTYPE

A prototype is a functional or nonfunctional version of a product, with the desired outcome of showing functions, looks etc.

PROVOTYPE

A provotype is a prototype, which intentionally is made to make participants comment and criticize - in such a way that they might come up with ideas to solve a problem or function.
